God is not for everyone!
Did I get your attention?
Well, let's be clear, I am not saying that!
But ohhhhh so many people are. Just look around!
In my walk with Christ, I have asked (like King Saul) for wisdom above anything else! I have valued knowledge and experience because it sets you apart from living haphazardly. I am a work in progress but blessed (is an understatement) in life because of Jesus Christ.
In the words of Maya Angelou:
"When you know better, you do better".
Well, at least that's the hope. Clearly the knuckleheads of the world haven't quite caught on to this concept. In years past; Guilty here too!
I am on a lifelong quest for learning more of who Jesus is, and on this journey I am finding I love him more and want to go deeper each and everyday. Why? Well, the list is endless, but to narrow it down, consistent Peace in my constant Mental Storms is in the top 5. When you suffer from anxiety, you experience how the mental burden becomes a daily part of life and I have found that it's only been with Christ as my "go-to", that I have begun to see that his peace shows up; consistently.
Ponder these thoughts:
Have you suffered a tremendous loss? Spouse, child, parent, sibling, friend?
Have you been tortured through a failed marriage? or are living in a rocky one feeling hopeless?
Have your children tugged at your heart more than you could have ever expected? Drugs and/or alcohol abuse, defiance, lack of direction, etc.
Has finances been your Achilles Heal and financial freedom only seems like a pipe dream?
Have you yet to fulfill a dream, career, pathway you set out to achieve?
Do physical ailments haunt you (or loved ones) each and every day? Mental, cancer, body aches, injuries....and so on!
I can attest to most of these bullet points. I have yet to experience a tremendous loss and grateful no Cancer in me. But in several that I do love.
Make no mistake about it, I am not preaching the healing, prosperity nor power gospel(s). Nope. They are false prophesies. Fake News! God's promises are good and consistent but in no way does he promote you will live a ill free, pain free life of riches in pure gold. We live in a fallen world with free will. He gives us choices everyday. Whether we choose him is on us! And he proclaims eternal life with him is way better than what this earth or mortality could ever give us. He even sent us his son to save us from our bad choices with a list of ways and parables showing us how to make better ones. But not everyone understands the power of the Gospels and why Jesus came. They could, if they would just crack open Matthew, Mark, Luke and/or John. But seemingly, most would rather read, watch, be entertained by what the secular world has to offer. I get that. I watch Netflix. But I also make it my first priority to know and understand Jesus. And then, and only then can I decipher the good, to release the bad and erase what's not to remain in my head.
One of God's promises is an abundant life. Note it's true definition:
The term "abundant life" comes from the Bible verse John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it more abundantly. "More abundantly" means to have a superabundance of a thing. "Abundant life" refers to life in its abounding fullness of joy and strength for mind, body, and soul. That "thing" is Jesus's "soul promise" amidst the messes in life.
Life! Life, is filled with messes. Ask anyone. Check social media. Watch the news. Most or all have experienced the points above.
Believer's will attest "you don't know how badly you need God until he is all you have"!
but three of my most Godly sisters in Christ have lost their sons in the last 3 years. One at 18 yrs. to an aortic valve disease. One to a heroin overdose at 23 yrs and one to suicide at 23 yrs. All of these women live in different states and are from different chapters in my life. But they have one common denominator. They love Jesus!
I am speculating, but I don't think there is anything more devastating to the human experience than losing a child. Yet each and every one of these Godly women still love, trust and honor God in their lives. They are testimonies to his unfailing love and strength through the hardest moments they could ever imagine. Try telling them "Not everyone needs God"? I don't even want to think of where their hearts (or minds) would be without Jesus Christ!
It's that wisdom that they trusted in the before and after. By learning about Christ and trusting in his word, when tragedy struck, they had hope to cling to. Undoubtedly, there were and continue to be dark days, but their hope is strong that Gods will be done in their lives and they will see their heavily sons again. Yet another promise from God.
Dear Denise, Suzanne & Catherine,
I love you so much and you are such Godly Inspirations
in my life and the lives of others!
Tragedy, disappointment, pain. No one is immune to these. No not one!
John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
It's right there. Take heart. He knew trouble would inevitably come. But shares a set of promises that he will cover you through it all.
Psalm 91:4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
What makes people think they don't need God? That's a question I ponder often.
I can observe only so much, yet, as a diligent witness, I find that humans walking without God, live in the following top ten ways:
Lack general confidence.
Live in fear.
Lack substance in jobs, careers, parenthood; feel generally enslaved in work.
Misunderstand what real success is (most deathbeds don't consist of wishing they had more career success or made more money; they are typically last moments of wishing they loved more).
Lack joy and happiness thinking they to are acquire joy and happiness from others. Generally moody. When was the last time you met a moody pastor?
Constantly questioning the "Whys" in life.
Believe in luck.
Quite harshly, this is what I witness every. single. day! And before Christ, what I actually lived and believed in. I didn't think God was for me either. Until I fell flat on my face with anxiety. And by his Grace and the very big hearts of two women vessels who introduced me to Jesus, I was saved and abundantly so. Knowing and following Jesus; now that is hitting the lottery two-fold!
Not only have I witnessed the unsustainable walks (or should I say, trips & falls) of non-believers every day, I have the pleasure of witnessing believers and their flying high on the wings of Jesus Christ. Even through pain, cancer, loss, struggles, Their homage goes to Jesus.
Their saving grace!
So to those who think or believe that God is not for everyone! I ask this deeply rooted question?!
How's that really working out for you?
